As we gather each year for the Matt's Homestead annual fundraiser, we come together not only to raise funds and awareness, but to celebrate a life that continues to inspire kindness, compassion, and service long after it ended.
Matt had a way of making people feel seen. He cared deeply about others and had a natural ability to bring people together. While his loss left an unimaginable void for those who loved him, his legacy continues to shine through the work being done every day in his name.
When Matt's Homestead was founded, the goal was simple: to help individuals in early recovery access the basic resources and support they need to rebuild their lives. What began as a small effort fueled by love and hope has grown into a community-wide mission powered entirely by volunteers, donors, sponsors, and supporters who believe that everyone deserves a chance to succeed.
The impact of that mission continues to grow.
Since our last picnic in September 2025, Matt's Homestead has already helped 389 individuals on their recovery journey. Whether through transportation assistance, clothing for employment, household necessities, recovery resources, or simply being a source of encouragement during difficult times, each person served represents another opportunity to create hope where it is needed most.
This work would not be possible without the incredible generosity of our sponsors, donors, volunteers, and community partners. Your support allows us to respond quickly when someone reaches out for help and ensures that resources are available when they are needed most.
We are especially grateful to the many individuals who work behind the scenes throughout the year—organizing donations, coordinating outreach efforts, processing applications, delivering resources, and spreading awareness about our mission. Every act of service, no matter how big or small, helps carry Matt's legacy forward.
As founder Jennifer Barba often reminds us, recovery is not something anyone should have to navigate alone. Behind every application is a person, a family, and a story. Sometimes the smallest act of kindness—a bus pass, a pair of work boots, groceries, or a few words of encouragement—can make all the difference in helping someone continue moving forward.
Today, we celebrate not only Matt's memory, but the community that has formed around his legacy. Together, we have built something truly special: a network of people committed to helping others find hope, dignity, connection, and a path toward healing.
Thank you for standing with us, believing in our mission, and helping us continue this important work.
Together, we are changing lives.
Together, we are creating hope.
And together, we are ensuring that Matt's legacy continues to live on through every person we serve.
